Information Minister Robert Morgan has said the government will continue to work with international partners to improve visa-free access for Jamaican passport holders.
Mr. Morgan was responding to a question about Jamaica not being included among 13 countries where known travellers will now be allowed visa-free access into Canada.
"Whenever these things happen, we have to contextualise them," he urged.
Mr. Morgan said while every nation has a right to decide who it grants visa -free access, the decision to restrict Jamaican passport holders is sometimes related to a negative perception of our nationals.
But he promised that "This government will continue to work, to advocate on behalf of our citizens, to find ways for ease of travel across the world."
He was speaking Wednesday at a post-Cabinet press briefing.
The visa-free travel has been extended to known travellers from Antigua and Barbuda, St. Lucia, Trinidad and Tobago, St. Kitts-Nevis, Panama, Argentina, Costa Rica, Uruguay, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Thailand and the Philippines.
A known traveller is someone who holds a Canadian visa, obtained one over the last 10 years or holds a valid United States visa.
