The government has secured US$400,000 to assist road safety efforts.
Minister without portfolio in the Office of the Prime Minister Floyd Green said the money will be provided through the United Nations Road Safety Fund.
Minister Green said the money will be used to address important aspects of the road safety environment.
"We will be strengthening road safety management capacities by developing a comprehensive electronic injury surveillance system. So we will be carrying out a study to observe the attitudes of Jamaicans on our roads," he announced.
Additionally, he said the government will be purchasing new breathalyzer equipment for US$73,000 as well as new speed enforcement equipment for US$50,000, in addition to training officers to the tune of US$80,000.
Mr. Green said the project will run for three years.
