Horace Dalley now acting chairman of the People's National Party (PNP).
On Monday Mr. Dalley, substantively the deputy chairman of the party, told Radio Jamaica News that he assumed the post on Friday when Phillip Paulwell resigned.
Mr. Dalley said he will remain as acting chairman until the party's annual conference in September.
The PNP's National Executive Council (NEC) is scheduled to meet this Saturday and Sunday.
It's expected that the problems facing the party will be discussed at the meeting.
Last Friday the party’s four vice-presidents – including Mr Paulwell who held the dual posts of chairman and vice-president – citing irreconcilable factional differences in the opposition party heading into its next annual conference in September.
PNP President Mark Golding has been struggling to bring the factions together, following two bruising elections for the party’s presidency in 2019 and 2020.
