Immigration Officers at the Sangster International Airport in the western city of Montego Bay are restive.
On Saturday, over 40 Immigration Officers failed to report to work resulting in other immigration officers being pulled from other areas, in order to man the posts that were left vacant for the day.
The Immigration Officers are upset over the amount they are being paid for a special allowance. Its reported, that they now receive J$6, 500 per month for this allowance, while their colleagues at the Norman Manley International Airport receive J$30 thousand per monthly.
There are concerns that the immigration officers could take further action with a month to go before the start of the Winter Tourist Season.
Their protest caught the attention of Robert Chung, Vice President of the Jamaica Civil Service Association (JCSA), who has promised to look into the matter.
