A report from ABC affiliate WPBF News reports
A woman remains in a Florida jail on a murder charge in relation to the stabbing death of her Jamaican husband at their Palm Springs home close to two weeks ago.
The body of 62-year-old Melvin Weller was found with 140 stab wounds on February 11.
He also had a skull fracture caused by a blow from a meat cleaver to the right rear of his head.
Police say they found knives and a meat cleaver in the kitchen sink, a bloody nightgown and a trash bag near the body.
In the bedroom, they discovered Mr. Weller's wife, 61-year-old Joan Burke, with cuts on her hands and not saying a word.
Mr. Weller had filed for divorce in December.
His divorce attorney, Nicole Hamill Scott, said a possible item of dispute was millions of dollars in real estate that, under Florida law, would have to be divided.
She said she had just had a meeting outlining the terms with Burke's lawyer a week before the murder took place.
The attorney said Mr. Weller was completely willing to split everything equitably and just wanted to return to Jamaica for his retirement.
The police said Mr. Weller was disabled.
