Jamaicans advised to take precautions against flu virus

The Ministry of Health is advising the public to take extra precautions against contracting the Influenza virus.
 
The ministry says current case load is within the expected range for this time of the year, however a spike is anticipated.
 
The ministry is encouraging mask wearing, frequent washing of hands and the practice of good respiratory etiquette and the avoidance of close contact with people who are ill or who are exhibiting flu-like symptoms.
 
Flu viruses circulate worldwide and can affect anybody in any age group with varied symptoms, including fever/chills, sore throat, muscle aches, fatigue, cough, headache, and runny or stuffy nose.
 
Minister of Health  Dr. Christopher Tufton says routine surveillance activities, including testing, continues in order to rapidly detect any new viruses that may be introduced in the population.
