Jamaica's sugar cane reaping affected by out-of-season rain

Jamaica is reported as one of two countries in the Caribbean where out-of-season rain has affected the reaping period for sugar cane and delayed production.

The Sugar Association of the Caribbean (SAC) says the other country is Guyana.

However, the SAC says it expects both countries to finish reaping by the end of July and should have more favourable results for the remainder of the crop.

The most recent data covers production for the month of May.

During that month, Caribbean sugar industries produced a total of 30,345 tonnes with Jamaica producing 4,487 tonnes.
