The Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) is dismissing suggestions in the public domain that the arrest of a man on Monday was linked to negative comments about Prime Minister Andrew Holness.
The man made the comments in a video which has gone viral on social media.
However, the JCF says the man was taken into custody as a suspect in relation to a case of larceny, committed on July 24 in Moneague, St. Ann.
It says investigators were alerted to the man's whereabouts by his own declarations in the video posted to social media.
The statement from the JCF did not address a subsequent video in which the man was seen apologising for his comments about the prime minister.
