JHTA pays tribute to Merrick Needham

By Halshane Burke

The Jamaica Hotel and Tourist Association (JHTA) has added its voice to those mourning well known logistics and protocol consultant Merrick Needham.

Needham died at hospital on December 29.

He was married to former JHTA Executive Director Camille Needham.

The JHTA described Needham as a true patriot who steered Jamaica for decades along the path of what it calls "correctness" for state and national events, international conferences and special occasions.

The association asserts that many leaders of Jamaica's diplomatic corps, corporate executives, government representatives and event planning specialists owe their proficiency to Needham, who was well regarded as the "go to man" whenever there was a question or uncertainty about correct form and protocol.

Needham's work with the Jamaica Defence Force over several decades earned him the title of Honorary Colonel, the first Jamaican to be so honoured by the force.
