Chairman of the Jamaica Labour Party, Robert Montague has declared that the party is not yet ready to contest the upcoming parliamentary general election as its selection exercise has not been completed.

Mr Montague says four seats remain vacant.

Westmoreland Western which held a candidate run-off on Saturday is one of the four. In that contest, sitting MP Morland Wilson and Garfield James, Councillor for the Sheffield Division, vied for the support of the delegates.

The JLP plans to announce the results of that internal poll later today.

Mr Montague, addressing the St Catherine East Central Constituency Conference on Sunday, called for party workers to step up their mobilisation efforts, arguing that Prime Minister and JLP leader Dr Andrew Holness will not call an election until the groundwork is complete.

The JLP Chairman is also encouraging party members to present their ideas for inclusion in the election manifesto. He has praised Senator Sherene Golding Campbell's suggestion for a women's health test under the National Health Fund.
