The management of the Kingston Public Hospital says investigations are continuing into the death of a 75-year-old man who fell from the third floor of the Medical Ward Saturday morning.

He was a patient on the ward at the time of the incident.

In a statement Thursday, the KPH management said immediately following the incident, the hospital staff promptly responded.

The patient was taken to the Accident and Emergency Department, where resuscitation efforts were unsuccessful.

His relatives were contacted and counselling services have been offered to the family.

The KPH says a comprehensive investigation into the circumstances of the patient's death is underway, with updates to be shared with the Ministry of Health and Wellness and the Board of the South East Regional Health Authority.

The police are conducting their own investigation.

Radio Jamaica News had reported that the patient had an argument with a nurse who tried to tie him to a bed.

He is said to have resisted. It's further understood that he climbed over the railing of the building and fell.
