Surgeries scheduled for the main operating theatre at the Accident and Emergency ward at  Kingston Public Hospital have been relocated after the facility was flooded on Saturday.

The Southeast Regional Health Authority (SERHA) said the flooding was due to a malfunctioning valve which regulates the water pressure. This resulted in excessive water pressure in the pipes, the agency reported.

Errol Greene, Regional Director of SERHA, told Radio Jamaica News that work was being done to restore normality, "within short order."

He added that special arrangements have been made for surgical procedures to be conducted at other health facilities, including the adjoining Victoria Jubilee Hospital, should the need arise.

The affected operating theatre "will be subject to drying out and swabbing to ensure that there's no mold growth, and infection control is at its best," surgeries can resume in the main operating theatre, Greene said.
