One realtor believes recent court rulings on building breaches by developers could cause potential buyers to become wary of investing in properties at the pre-construction stage.
One project is now in limbo after the Supreme Court refused to modify the terms of a developer's title to accommodate breaches which saw 32 bedrooms being built instead of 12 one-bedroom units as was approved by the Kingston and St. Andrew Municipal Corporation.
Another development at Birdsucker Drive was facing demolition after the court overturned the building and environmental approvals.
According to Newton Johnson, First Vice-President of the Realtors Association of Jamaica, these developments in the courts could make potential buyers hesitant to make a deposit before construction is complete.
Mr. Johnson contends that the municipal corporations must be held responsible for inadequate oversight of construction projects.
