Legal battle brewing between Restaurants of Jamaica, directors of Stages Production

A legal battle is shaping up between Restaurants of Jamaica which operates the KFC and Pizza Hut franchises, and three Directors/shareholders of Stages Production Limited over a multi-million dollar debt.

Attorney-at-Law Kent Gammon confirmed that Restaurants of Jamaica has filed a claim against the men seeking more than eleven million dollars in outstanding rent.

The defendants in the matter are Stages Production Directors and shareholders Rohan Wynter, Bunny Allen and Calvin Taylor.

Stages Production is known for several popular plays, many of which featured the well known Keith 'Shebada' Ramsay.

Stages Production Cinema started operations nearly six years ago on Cargill Avenue in St. Andrew. It later relocated to Knutsford Boulevard in New Kingston in a facility housing two theatres, one seating 250 and the other 160 persons. That facility is owned by Restaurants of Jamaica.

In the Particulars of Claim obtained by RJR News, Restaurants of Jamaica is claiming that on or about November 19, 2013, the three defendants signed an agreement with the fast food chain franchisee.

Based on the agreement, Stages now owes US$101,682, or the equivalent of $11 million, in outstanding rent.

The agreement included interest payments at the rate of eight per cent per annum.

Restaurants of Jamaica is claiming that the Stages Production directors have to date failed, refused, and or neglected to pay any of the outstanding sums.

Mr. Gammon says Restaurants of Jamaica is also seeking damages for breach of contract in relation to the multi-million dollar debt, interest, as well as costs.

He says numerous efforts to locate the defendants have been futile.
