Man found dead in Greenwich Farm believed to have been involved in shootout with police

The St Andrew South Police suspect that a man found dead with bullet wounds on Third Street in Greenwich Farm Saturday morning was involved in Friday night's shooting of a constable in the community.

Senior Superintendent Kirk Ricketts, Commanding Officer for the police division, told Radio Jamaica News that the deceased was clutching a firearm.

SSP Ricketts said the body was found while the police were carrying out a search of the community following the attack on a patrol team.

It's reported that the patrol team were making inquiries of a group of men acting suspiciously when the men pulled firearms, resulting in a shoot-out.

SSP Ricketts said a constable was wounded during that exchange.

He said the police suspect that the dead man was among the group that shot at the patrol team.
