Jamaica garnered 17 medals including 7 gold on the opening day of the 52nd Carifta Games at the Hasely Crawford Stadium in Trinidad and Tobago.
Among the gold medallists was Jamal Stephenson who sped to a personal best time of 10.24 seconds to win Under 20 boys 100 meters.
Shanoya Douglas also struck gold for Jamaica in the Under 20 girls equivalent, clocking 11.26 seconds. Compatriot Sabrina Dockery who was favoured to win, was disqualified for a false start.
Michael Graham took the Under 17 boys 100 metres in 10.53 seconds, with compatriot Jaydon Collins taking third in 10.68 seconds.
Cindy Rose bagged gold in the Under 20 girls 1500 metres in 4 minutes 37.95 seconds, ahead of teammate Sushana Johnson 4 minutes 40.83.
Joseph Salmon took gold in the U20 boys discus with 56.82 metres with fellow Jamaican Devonte Edwads taking the bronze with 50.97 metres.
Amani Phillips also secured gold in the Under 17 boys triple jump with 15.58 meters, while compatriot Khi- Anthony Hall took the bronze with 14.21 metres. Sakora Palmer also won gold for Jamaica in the under 17 girls' high jump after clearing 1.71 metres.
