Mark Golding wins St. Andrew South chairmanship

Mark Golding and Colin Campbell

Senator Mark Golding is the new People's National Party (PNP) Chairman of  the constituency of  St. Andrew Southern.

He defeated former  Jamaica Urban Transit Corporation (JUTC) Managing Director Colin Campbell during the poll in the constituency on Saturday.

The third candidate, Dr. Wesley Morris, pulled out of  the race.

The results came shortly before five o'clock with PNP Deputy General Secretary Luther Buchanan announcing a landslide victory for Senator Golding.

Golding polled 70 votes while Campbell garnered eight votes. One ballot was deemed spoilt.

Golding said he plans to celebrate before getting down to business.

The sitting Member of Pariament, Dr. Omar Davies, is expected to retire from parliament shortly, clearing the way for  Golding to contest the resulting by-election to replace him as MP for the constituency.
