Mayor of Portmore Leon Thomas
Mayor of Portmore Leon Thomas is calling for Health Minister Dr. Christopher Tufton to provide information on the land identified for the construction of a hospital in Portmore.
In February, Dr. Tufton announced that land in the Bernard Lodge area had been identified to build a new hospital for Portmore. He explained that a feasibility study was being done to determine the format and structure, and that the government was strategically working to meet the health demands of the areas growing in population.
But Mayor Thomas argues that the People's National Party and the public are in the dark about the particulars.
"We want Tufton to tell we where is the land? Where in Bernard Lodge the land is? Because of the cries of the people of Portmore that we need a hospital, he went on national television and radio and announced that they identified land. Nothing nuh guh suh!" the mayor asserted.
Amid a legislative push to declare Portmore the 15th parish, there have been calls for the area to be equipped with certain amenities present across all parishes. These include a hospital and parish court.
