The Mayor of Kingston, Andrew Swaby, is calling for reforms at the Kingston and St. Andrew Municipal Corporation (KSAMC) following serious lapses in monitoring the residential development at 2 Weycliffe Close, in Beverly Hills.
The KSAMC said in a statement that breaches of the approved building plan were identified during an inspection on October 31, 2024, after earlier findings by the Integrity Commission revealed irregularities.
The municipal corporation admitted that the developer's building permit had expired since July 2023, yet construction continued without proper oversight.
Mayor Swaby described the situation as unacceptable, citing the need for stricter compliance measures.
The corporation indicated that it is now reviewing its procedures, planning to strengthen inspections, hire more officers, and introduce digital systems for better oversight.
In January, the KSAMC will also engage an independent specialist to guide reforms, ensuring transparency and restoring public trust in its processes.
