Scores of persons from western Jamaica queued to bid farewell to the late former Governor General Sir Howard Cooke, whose body is lying-in-state at the Montego Bay Cultural Centre in Sam Sharpe Square, St James.
Shortly after viewing started at 9 am Tuesday, persons steadily streamed through the centre to view his body.
Member of Parliament for Central St James Lloyd B.Smith, said Sir Howard touched the lives of many not only in Western Jamaica.
“Sir Howard was a household name in Western Jamaica, he was known as the Dean of the west and was also called “Teacher Cooke” , as an educator, a cricketer , a politician and a mentor to many individuals,” he said.
Sir Howard, who served as Governor General from 1991 to 2006, died on July 11 aged 98.
The State Funeral will take place at Holy Trinity Cathedral in Kingston on Friday at 10 o'clock.
He will be buried at National Heroes Park .
