The Jamaica Medical Doctors Association (JMDA) is in agreement with the position that it might become necessary to close the Cornwall Regional Hospital, in light of signs that the air quality crisis if far from over.
The Nurses Association of Jamaica and the Jamaica Workers Union, which have members at the hospital, have called for its shutdown so that comprehensive action can be taken to address the problem.
Dr. Elon Thompson, JMDA President, told RJR News that he it would be prudent to close the hospital “if it continues that the air quality is not good enough to work in.”
In such circumstances, he said, “the environment requires serious attention, and it may need closure of the hospital,” since staff and patients there “will continue to get sick.”
