Member of Parliament for East Portland Ann-Marie Vaz has committed to offering funds from her salary to assist vendors affected by the Musgrave market fire.
Mrs. Vaz says she will also be partnering with the private sector to help the vendors regroup from what she termed a tragedy.
The additional sum that the government has added to my salary, the entire amount will be donated to ensure that every one of you can get back on your feet. This will be a start… and I can assure you that I will be seeking additional help, not only from the government but from the private sector," she promised.
Fire broke out Sunday morning at the rear of the Musgrave market and quickly spread to nearby businesses, destroying a variety of goods, cold storage equipment, cash machines and an undetermined sum of cash.
