Nine-year-old boy dies in suspected suicide

The St. Catherine police are probing an incident in which a nine-year-old boy is suspected to have taken his own life after being scolded by his mother.
 
The incident happened about 11:20 a.m. at Zambia district in Central Village,  St. Catherine.
 
The deceased is Tyrese Bennett, a student of Eltham Park Primary School.  
 
It's reported that boy's father, who is a construction worker, was working at a nearby site when he went home to have a drink of water.
 
The child's mother, who operates a stall, was at the front of the yard conducting business.
 
The father went inside the house and found his son motionless, sitting in a crib with a sock tied around his neck.
 
He was rushed to hospital where he was pronounced dead.
 
Investigators reported that the boy was scolded earlier by his mother.
 
An autopsy is to be performed to determine the cause of death.
