The Kingston Western Police are continuing their investigation of the killing of a 12-year-old male student in downtown Kingston, two weeks ago.

A 14-year-old female student has been taken into custody in connection with the incident.

Omar Collie, a first form student at Denham Town High School, was killed on November 19 while on his way home from school.

He was stabbed with a sharp object during an altercation with the 14-year-old along West Queen Street.

Senior Superintendent Michael Phipps, head of the Kingston Western Police, told Radio Jamaica News that no charges have been laid in the case as the matter is still under investigation.

He said investigators will be seeking guidance from the Director of Public Prosecutions whether charges are to be laid against the female student who is now in state care.

The Ministry of Education has expressed concern about the surge in violence in schools over the last few weeks.
