Two students are dead and several other people injured following a two-vehicle collision on the Bustamante Highway in Clarendon on Monday morning.
The students, a boy and a girl, attended Lennon High in the parish.
Students from the same institution are reportedly among the injured.
The crash occurred sometime after 8 a.m. in the vicinity of Foga Road and involved a Toyota Probox, being operated as a taxi and a Subaru Impreza motorcar.
Both vehicles were extensively damaged.
The driver of the Toyota Probox is among those in hospital.
The deceased were passengers in the Subaru. That driver fled the scene.
Deputy Superintendent Owen Brown, Territorial Officer for the Clarendon Police Division, confirmed the death of the two students, noting that others are in hospital.
"There are three others that are currently being attended to [at hospital] - one is rather critical, and we're hoping that he'll be able to pull through," he disclosed.
DSP Brown said he could not confirm theories that one of the vehicles involved in the crash was being chased by a member of the Transport Authority.
What is certain, he said, is that at least one of the vehicles was speeding and the driver may have lost control, which resulted in the crash.
