The Ministry of Education has responded to growing rumblings over the format which will be used to release the results of the Primary Exit Profile (PEP), examinations next week.
Some school administrators have complained that they have been given details.
The first sitting of the PEP exams, which replaced the Grade Six Achievement Test, took place in February, March and April.
Acting Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Dr. Grace McLean, yesterday told Parliament's Public Administration and Appropriations Committee that the results will be released using scale scores.
“This means that we will be reporting in four categories, students who are beginning, students who are developing; those who are proficient and those who are highly proficient. These four categories will have us place the scores for the subjects that the students would have done, on a particular scale - this is usually between 100 and 600 and the students will fall in different continuum.”
The Acting Permanent secretary said that this will remove the stigma associated with exams of this nature .
“What it will show, is the areas that they are advancing in and the areas for intervention,” she said.
