The Inspectorate and Professional Standards Oversight Bureau (IPROB) of the Jamaica Constabulary Force has sought to assure the public of its commitment to holding members of the force accountable.

Lobby group Jamaicans for Justice (JFJ) staged a protest this week calling for greater accountability in the force in light of the increasing number of police fatal shootings.

Deputy Commissioner of Police Clifford Blake, head of IPROB, says it is crucial that the public has confidence in the police as they execute their duties to serve and protect.

"We reassure the complainants, the persons who are making the complaints. And we do this by making them comfortable, collecting their statements, giving them regular feedback. We have a standard seven days feedback that we give persons initially and after that, every two weeks. But the projected completion of cases that we have, we have 28 days that we strive to complete our cases, and this is reassuring to persons," he sought to explain.

DCP Blake was speaking Thursday evening on the programme, JCF Now, on Radio Jamaica.

He said the bureau shares a close working relationship with the Director of Public Prosecutions to ensure any criminal conduct is adequately addressed.
