PM Golding confirms that Cabinet reshuffle is imminent

Prime Minister Bruce Golding has confirmed speculation there is to be a Cabinet reshuffle.

Mr. Golding gave the clearest signal yet that changes are coming to his line up of ministers when he appeared on his monthly radio call in programme "Jamaica House Live" Wednesday night.

He said his decision to assume responsibility for the Ministry of Energy and Mining is a temporary move ahead of a review of the three year old Cabinet.

The Prime Minister disclosed this will be done shortly.

"There is going to be a reassignment, a review of Cabinet portfolio responsibility shortly and therefore, my assumption of that responsibility is just temporary until that review is completed," Mr. Golding told listeners.

Speculation has been rife since last year that Mr. Golding was considering a Cabinet reshuffle.

It increased on Tuesday following the resignation of James Robertson as Minister of Energy and Mining.

Dr. Baugh to hold talks with US authorities

And the Prime Minister said Mr. Robertson made the appropriate decision in resigning from the Cabinet while attempts are made to get answers from the United States authorities on the revocation of his visitors visa.

According to Mr. Golding, he is awaiting the outcome of talks which are taking place at the diplomatic level.

"The Cabinet has asked Dr. Ken Baugh, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs to have further discussions with the US authorities, to get more specific information and to determine what further response would be appropriate. It is an issue that we take very seriously and we await the discussions that Dr. Baugh is scheduled to have with the US authorities," the Prime Minister also said on "Jamaica House Live."
