The People's National Party has said it fully supports and stands firmly behind the three of its prospective St. James candidates who have filed for leave to apply for judicial review in the Supreme Court against the decision of the St. James Municipal Corporation to remove their political advertising.

The claim was filed on Tuesday by Dr. Andre Haughton, Senator Janice Allen and Allan Bernard, who have described the act as blatantly unlawful.

They're seeking six orders from the Supreme Court, including a reversal of the municipal corporation's decision, a writ preventing further interference and an order compelling the return and reinstatement of their signage.

They're also seeking damages for abuse of authority by the municipal body.

The PNP has called for the Electoral Commission of Jamaica and other oversight bodies to take note of the development.

Meanwhile, speaking at a fundraising event in St. James West Central on Thursday night, caretaker for the constituency, Dr. Andre Haughton said Mayor Richard Vernon has misplaced his priorities.

"I say to you, where Sam Sharpe Square is has not developed since they built those statues. St. James Street has not changed since they've built those statues. We live in a dirty city and instead of cleaning up the city and evolving the place, the mayor is concerned about tearing down my posters because the JLP see the People's National Party and myself as a threat to them and their dominance in Montego Bay," he contended.
