PNP top brass support Roger Clarke in court

The preliminary hearing into the case involving former Government Minister and People's National Party Spokesman on Agriculture, Roger Clarke began in the Spanish Town Resident Magistrate's Court on Thursday morning.

Mr. Clarke is charged with causing death by dangerous driving, arising from his involvement in a fatal motor vehicle crash in August.

Several members of the top brass of the People’s National Party were in attendance while other Party supporters gathered on the outside.

The hearing was presided over by Resident Magistrate Annmarie Nembhard while Clerk of Courts Floyd McNab presented the Crown's case.

Only one witness was called to the stand on Thursday morning.

He gave the court an account of what he saw on the fateful day while a calm looking Mr. Clarke paid keen attention to the proceedings.

Following the witness' testimony, Mr. Clarke had his $250,000 bail extended until January 14 when the matter will continue.

St. Catherine resident Derron Nicholson died on August 23 when a Toyota Prado Land Cruiser Mr. Clarke was driving collided with his motorbike along the Nightingale Grove Road in St. Catherine.

Mr. Clarke was heading towards Spanish Town, when he reportedly swerved his vehicle to the right hand section of the road and hit the motor bike.

Mr. Nicholson was rushed to hospital where he was pronounced dead.
