Police monitoring Central Village after man killed, houses firebombed

Senior Superintendent Christopher Phillips, Commanding Officer for the St. Catherine South Police

The police are keeping a close watch on Central Village in St. Catherine following the killing of an unidentified man and the destruction of four houses by fire on Tuesday afternoon.

A woman was also shot during the attacks on Little Lane.

Senior Superintendent Christopher Phillips, Commanding Officer for the St. Catherine South Police, told Radio Jamaica News that it is suspected that the incidents are linked, as one of the houses firebombed was occupied by the woman.

SSP Phillips says about 4:30 p.m., men from neighbouring Zion Lane went to Little Lane where they shot the man and woman.

Shortly after, the houses were seen on fire.

SSP Phillips says the police are "not taking anything for granted" and will maintain a presence in Central Village to prevent reprisal attacks.
