The police say the man who was arrested in Tawes Meadows in St. Catherine on Wednesday following the seizure of 150 assorted rounds of ammunition, poses a serious threat to national security.
The police told Radio Jamaica News that the man has been a major supplier of guns and ammunition to criminal gangs in St. Catherine.
Deputy Superintendent Linroy Edwards, head of Operations for the St. Catherine North Police Division, said the man also provided bullets to hitmen.
According to DSP Edwards, the accused sold "special weapons" and ammunition preferred by hitmen and gangsters because they either "leave no trace" or have "great impact when it hits a target".
He reportedly operated under the guise of a legitimate business operator, selling toilet paper and wearing a company logo on his shirts.
