RJRGLEANER board responds after chairman publicly endorses PNP presidential candidate

Dr. Lawrence Nicholson, Deputy Chairman of the RJRGLEANER Communications Group

The Board of the RJRGLEANER Communications Group has responded to concerns raised about the entity's Chairman, Joseph Matalon, publicly endorsing Mark Golding's bid for the presidency of the People's National Party (PNP).

The matter was discussed Tuesday at a meeting of the board.

Dr. Lawrence Nicholson, Deputy Chairman of the RJRGLEANER Communications Group, said the members of the board sought clarification from Mr. Matalon after concerns were raised, both internally and externally, about him endorsing the PNP presidential candidate.

"The board discussed the issue and we have put out a statement, having heard and having been convinced of the integrity not only of Mr Matalon and what the Group stands for," Mr Nicholson told Radio Jamaica News

In an interview on Beyond The Headlines Tuesday afternoon, Mr. Matalon defended his action, saying his endorsement of Mr. Golding was purely personal, based on their 30-year friendship, and not related to his non-executive role as chairman of the RJRGLEANER Group.
