School dress and grooming policy near completion, says Williams

By Halshane Burke

Education Minister Fayval Williams says the Dress and Grooming Policy is nearing completion and should soon be heading to Cabinet for approval.

Mrs Williams says the policy framework will clarify the Ministry's stance on the issues and will seek to reduce discriminatory practices in schools while addressing the need for discipline and the development of societal values.

Each educational institution will be required to review and document its own guidelines in keeping with the policy.

The Ministry has held several stakeholder consultations on various policies to be implemented across the educational landscape.

Among the guidelines are the nutrition, language in school, safe schools and tertiary education policies.

Minister Williams says the policies are at various stages of stakeholder engagement ahead of implementation.
