Six Jamaicans have been detained by Bahamian authorities in what has been called an irregular migrant sweep.
Haitians and Dominicans are also among the more than 500 migrants who have been arrested since the launch of Operation Restore in Abaco on February 13.
In an update to Parliament on Wednesday, Immigration Minister Keith Bell said the charges range from being undocumented, working outside the scope of their work permit, overstaying, and working on Abaco with a permit issued for New Providence.
Mr. Bell said as of February 28, there have been 20 convictions under Operation Restore for 2023.
He said the enforcement of the government's zero tolerance immigration policies cost taxpayers one point five million dollars in 2022.
