Students involved in brawl at St. Thomas Technical High identified.

The Ministry of  Education says the students who reportedly attacked and beat an auxiliary worker at the St Thomas Technical High School have been identified. The incident, which took place on Monday, led to a disruption in classes at the school on Tuesday.

A statement from the Education Ministry said the incident was captured on the schools' surveillance camera. It says the parents were contacted and asked to meet the Guidance Counsellor. According to the Ministry, a senior teacher accompanied the boys involved, to the police station.

Teachers at St. Thomas Technical staged a sit-in yesterday to protest against the incident. This led to classes being suspended. Normality is expected to return today.

It's reported that about 2:20 Monday afternoon, two grade seven male students were involved in a fight and the ancillary worker intervened. The worker attempted to get the students involved to the principal's office. It's reported that on his way to the principal's office, there was an altercation with the students who attacked him. The boys reportedly threw him to the ground, kicked and punched him several times. When an alarm was raised, the boys ran.

The auxiliary worker made a report to the police and sought medical attention. The principal also made a report to the police. A critical incident report is being prepared for submission. The Education Officer with responsibility for St. Thomas Technical will visit the institution this morning.
