Suspended firefighter protesting atop Half-Way-Tree Transport Centre

A firefighter, who was suspended for an earlier act of protest against his employer, the Jamaica Fire Brigade, is at it again on Tuesday in a more dramatic manner, placing himself atop the imposing Half-Way-Tree Transport Centre in St. Andrew.

Sergeant Leo Bennett, who has been standing on the arch which spans the roof of the transport centre, told Radio Jamaica News that he is again demanding urgent attention to the welfare needs of firefighters, additional gear, a three-shift system and the provision of healthcare.

Sergeant Bennett has been off the job since last May when he was suspended for breaching the Fire Brigade's regulations.

He is awaiting a hearing consequent on that earlier protest.
