Malaria is spread by the Anopheles Mosquitoes. It is transmitted to humans by the female mosquitoes.
Health officials in The Bahamas confirmed an imported case of malaria yesterday.
The patient is a Bahamian man in his mid-thirties who traveled to West Africa.
The Health Ministry said the patient was being treated at a private medical facility and is expected to make a full recovery.
Malaria is not endemic to the Bahamas and the last documented case on the island was in 2008.
