Three charged in connection with billion-dollar cocaine seizure offered bail

The three men who were charged in connection with last month's billion-dollar cocaine seizure off the coast of  St. Elizabeth, were offered bail when they appeared in the St. Elizabeth Parish Court on Thursday morning.

Forty-year-old Daniel Hanson, of a St. Elizabeth address, as well as 31-year-old Jason Wedderburn and 36-year-old Elvis Johnson, who are from Westmoreland, were each offered bail in the sum of $1 million with surety.

As a condition of their bail, they are to report to the police twice weekly and surrender their travel documents.

Stop orders were placed on them.

The men are scheduled to return to court on March 3.

On November 22, members of the Jamaica Defence Coast Guard were on an anti-narcotics operation south west of Black River when they intercepted a boat with the three men aboard.

The boat was searched and bags containing 2,000 pounds of cocaine allegedly found.

The cocaine was valued at US$46 million.
