Trade unionist Keith Comrie has died.
Mr Comrie, who served as General Secretary of the Union of Schools, Agricultural and Allied Workers, for many years, died on Sunday yesterday after ailing for some time.
Radio Jamaica News understands that he was recently undergoing dialysis.
In one of his most notable public stances, Mr. Comrie ibroke ranks with the Jamaica Confederation of Trade Unions in 2018 when the umbrella trade union organization signed a four-year public sector wage agreement.
The agreement would saw public sector workers receiving a 16 per cent increase over the four years.
The furor over that agreement also led to the University and Allied Workers Union temporarily withdrawing from the JCTU.
In response to Mr Comrie's passing, the current JCTU President, St. Patrice Ennis, said he was a steadfast and passionate advocate for workers' rights, a trailblazer in the labour movement, and a stalwart champion of social justice.
