A man has been charged in relation to the deaths of two people in a motor vehicle collision on the Angels main road in St. Catherine on Monday.

Maurice Baker, a 27-year-old of Leiba Gardens in Spanish Town, is charged with two counts of manslaughter.

He is scheduled to appear in the St. Catherine Parish Court on Friday.

Rickiesha White and Rickacya Garrison were killed when an Isuzu truck driven by Baker slammed into a taxi in which they were passengers.

It's reported that about 3:35 p.m. on Monday, the truck and taxi were travelling in opposite directions on the Angels main road.

Baker reported that he smelled smoke coming from inside the vehicle and looked down to investigate.

The truck drifted into the path of the taxi, resulting in the vehicles colliding in the vicinity of Angels Plaza.

Seven people from the taxi, including the driver, were injured.

White and Garrison were later pronounced dead.
