University student who tortured ex-girlfriend to be sentenced on October 25

Matthew Hyde, the university student who burned and tortured his ex-girlfriend on the Mona campus of the University of the West Indies last year, is to be sentenced on October 25.
 
Hyde, who is represented by Patrick Peterkin, pleaded guilty to the charges when he appeared in the Home Circuit Court on Thursday.
 
Both the defence and the prosecution are in receipt of Hyde's forensic psychiatric evaluation report.
 
They are also in receipt of his social enquiry report and antecedents.
 
Hyde, 21, was charged with assault occasioning grievous bodily harm, use of malicious communication, assault occasioning actual bodily harm, and false imprisonment.
 
His ex-girlfriend was held captive for three days in his room at the George Alleyne Hall where he allegedly tortured her with a hot clothing iron and other implements.
 
She was reportedly discovered some time after 10 p.m. on February 9 last year.
