Matthew Hyde, the University of the West Indies (UWI) Mona student accused of the alleged abduction and torture of his ex-girlfriend, was remanded when he appeared before the St. Andrew Parish Court today.
Hyde will return to court on March 9.
His attorney, Peter Champagnie, says an application for bail was not made during today's court appearance since the defence had only just been served with statements in relation to the matter.
"Naturally, the defence would need time to assess the file, make a considered view on it in relation to whether or not an application for bail can be pursued on the next occasion," he told Radio Jamaica News after court.
Hyde, 20, was charged after he allegedly locked the 19-year-old student in his room for three days and tortured her with a clothing iron.
