The Caribbean Community [CARICOM] has expressed joy at the posthumous pardon granted by US President Joe Biden to National Hero, civil rights activist, Pan-Africanist leader Marcus Mosiah Garvey
Chair of Caricom & Prime Minister of Barbados Mia Mottley says the long-awaited pardon is testament to the unwavering advocacy of CARICOM leaders, both individually and collectively, along with countless members of the diaspora.
Miss Mottley says the pardon is a rectification of the unjust conviction of an ardent advocate for the rights and liberties of individuals of African descent.
She has extended CARICOM's heartfelt congratulations to his son, Dr Julius Garvey, and other members of his family, as well as to the Government and People of Jamaica, and all who honor the remarkable legacy of this extraordinary son of the region.
The Caricom Chair says Garvey's life and work continue to inspire and influence both within and beyond the Caribbean.
