The court has ordered former Grenada prime minister Dr. Keith Mitchell to pay EC$130,000 plus interest in damages to a former legislator, who successfully sued him over public statements made in June 2014.
Dr Mitchell says he intends to appeal the ruling.
The lawsuit stemmed from a town hall meeting, where Mitchell, in answering a question from the audience, said land had been bought by the government from a company whose members were ministers.
Former legislator Patrick Simmons argued that the words uttered were defamatory and that Mitchell knew their slanderous effect.
