CWI suspends Alzarri Joseph for two matches following on-field incident

Fast bowler Alzarri Joseph has been suspended by Cricket West Indies (CWI) for two matches following an on-field incident during Wednesday’s third and final One Day International between the West Indies and England at the Kensington Oval in Barbados.

Joseph walked off the field after the fourth over leaving the West Indies a player short, after a disagreement with captain Shai Hope over a field change.

The Antiguan had claimed the wicket of Jordan Cox for one and immediately walked back to the top of his mark without celebrating with his teammates.

A release from CWI on Thursday evening said the incident which involved conduct falling short of its standards of professionalism, was reviewed in consultation with the coaching staff of the senior men's team.

In the meantime, Joseph has issued a public apology, acknowledging the incident and expressing regret. He has also apologized to captain Shai Hope, the other members of the team and the management.

CWI Director of Cricket Miles Bascombe said Joseph's behaviour did not align with the core values that CWI upholds, noting that such conduct cannot be overlooked, and that they have taken decisive action to ensure the gravity of the situation is fully acknowledged.
