Former West Indies and Jamaica fast bowler Darren Powell says he was surprised by the nomination of Jamaica Cricket Association (JCA) president Wilford “Billy” Heaven for the presidency of Cricket West Indies.
Heaven pulled out of the presidential race with current vice-president Dr Kishore Shallow despite being nominated by Jamaica and Guyana's cricket boards last month.
However, after meeting with the Barbados Cricket Association (BCA) last week, Heaven who is into his fifth term as JCA president, decided to walk away from the challenge with Shallow.
For Powell, Heaven being nominated was a shocker to him. Dr Shallow will ascend into the presidential post on Sunday at the Annual General Meeting (AGM) in Antigua.
He will replace Ricky Skerritt who has stepped aside following consecutive two year terms.
