Kingston College and Edwin Allen continue to lead the respective points standings entering the 4th day of the ISSA Grace Kennedy Boys and Girls Athletics Championships at the National Stadium.
2019 winners Kingston College lead the boys standings with 119 points ahead of defending champions Jamaica College
86.5 points.
St Jago and Calabar are tied for third with 43 points, while Edwin Allen 38 and STETHS 29 points, round out the top 6.
Defending champions Edwin Allen are well out front on the girls side with 123 points ahead of Hydel on 83. St Jago 82, Holmwood Technical 57, Wolmer’s Girls 37 and Immaculate Conception 27 points, round out the top 6.
Among the highlights on Thursday, Jamora Alves of St Jago secured her second gold medal of the meet when she threw 40.30 metres to win the girls javelin throw open. She had also won the Class 1 girls discus on Wednesday.
Trevor Gunzell of Edwin Allen scored a mild upset in the Class 1 boys discus, throwing 61.65 meters to win the event ahead of World Under 20 shot putt finalist Kobe Lawrence of Calabar who threw 60.92 metres and fellow Edwin Allen team and pre event favourite Christopher Young 57.66 metres.
Aliyah Foster of Mount Alvernia High also leapt a personal best 6.03 meters to win the Class 2 girls long jump.
On the track, Gregory Prince of St Jago clocked a personal best 45.99 seconds to win the Class 1 boys 400 metres ahead of Deandre Watkin of Jamaica College 46.50 and Shemar Palmer of Manchester High 46.79 seconds.
Dejanea Oakley of Clarendon College took the Class 1 girls equivalent in 51.81 seconds ahead of World Under-20 representative Onieka McAnuff of Hydel 52.38 and Kaylia Kelly of Vere Technical 53.59.
Thirteen finals are scheduled for Friday's 4th day of competition, including the 400 metre hurdles for boys and girls.
Action gets underway at 9:00 am with the hepthalon 100m hurdles and the preliminaries of the Class 1 boys
shot put.
