Windies beat Proteas to win T20I series

Jamaican Rovman Powell tasted success in his first series as West Indies T20 captain, as the regional side pulled off a seven run win over South Africa in the third and final match at the Wanderers in Johanesburg on Tuesday.

Batting first, the West Indies piled up 220-8 from their 20 overs. The Windies slipped from 99-3 to 110-5 when Nicholas Pooran departed for 41 after Jamaican Brandon King made 36.

However, Raymon Reifer with 27 from 18 balls and a blistering 44 from 22 balls from Romario Shepherd propelled the Windies total.

Shepherd slammed two fours and three sixes and along with Alzarri Joseph 14 from 9 balls, hammered 43 runs from the last two overs. Three South African bowlers took two wickets apiece.

South Africa in their chase at 112-1 in the 11th over, but Alzarri Joseph with three wickets in the penultimate over stifled their push for a victory.

Joseph ended with career-best figures of 5-40, to restrict the hosts to 213-6. Reeza Hendricks top-scored with 83 for the Proteas.

The match ended the tour for the Windies who lost the test series two nil and drew the ODI series one apiece.
