Windies beat Sri Lanka to avoid ODI series whitewash

Report by RJRGLEANER Group Sports Reporter Christopher Scott

Excellent batting from Player of the Match Evin Lewis and Sherfane Rutherford ensured the West Indies did not leave Sri Lanka empty handed from their One Day International (ODI) series after winning the third and final game by 8 wickets under the Duckworth Lewis Method in Pallekele on Saturday.

With the weather affecting the game once more in the series the DLS Method would determine the winner again.
Only 23 overs per side were permitted with Sri Lanka getting to 156-3 when rain intervened.

Kusal Mendis had an aggressive performance with 56 from 22 deliveries and got support from Pathum Nissanka who weighed in with 56. Roston Chase and Sherfane Rutherford took a wicket each.

Set a revised target of 195 to get, the West Indies started off losing Jamaica's Brandon King for 16.

Lewis slammed 102 from 61 balls including 4 sixes and 9 fours, while Rutherford ended with an unbeaten even 50 from 26 deliveries with 3 sixes and 4 fours.

The West Indies squad is due back in Antigua on Monday evening ahead of the ODI and T20 series against England.
